By far the best way to have maps and plans scanned is to send them to a scanning bureau which specialises in large format document scanning.

Large format scanning includes documents up to A0 size such as maps, plans, drawings and photographs. A scanning bureau will have large format document scanning equipment which has been specially designed to handle oversized paper. Scanning bureaux also employ experienced scanning operatives who are able to deliver the highest quality images.

As well as scanning large format documents, references can also be added to identify each one and which can be used to retrieve the electronic images.
