What is form recognition software and how does it work?

by (comments: 0)

Form recognition software is used to automate the processing of forms. In essence, it ‘reads’ and extracts the data from the scanned image of a form and uploads it to a computer eliminating the need for manual data inputting. There is a verification stage when the data can be checked prior to being transferred and any queries resolved.

The main advantage of using form recognition software is that it provides a speedy method of capturing data and allows the processing of forms to begin a lot earlier than if done manually. This not only saves time but also reduces costs as less people are required to carry out the processing. It is particularly beneficial to organisations which handle large volumes of forms.

Form recognition software can either be purchased and installed in house for companies wishing to process forms using their own resources or the work can be outsourced to a document scanning bureau which specialises in data capture techniques. A scanning bureau will scan the paperwork, apply form recognition technology to capture the data and then transfer the data using a secure web link to a server on the client’s premises.
