Why are more universities using electronic document management systems?
It has been reported recently that universities are beginning to see the benefits of EDMS and are electronically storing and delivering hundreds of thousands of documents every year.
The greatest gain is in the Finance Department where purchase invoices are being scanned and made available via workflow to members of staff for authorisation.
EDM is also being used for the electronic creation and delivery of thousands of student finance documents including monthly statements, invoices and dunning letters. The cost savings on pre-printed stationery, printing and postage is extremely significant, storage space is freed up and staff time is also saved, giving greater efficiency.
Most universities also have sites in different locations and electronic storage allows documents to be accessed by staff wherever they are working.
